Benefits of running an online business
Running an online business

Starting and running an online business can be just as rewarding as one in the real world. It also has several advantages over a real world business.

1) Start-up costs are minimal

When starting a business in the real world, you may have to consider buying or leasing costs for your location. You will also need to buy furniture and equipment for your office.

A computer is the only piece of equipment that you’ll need when starting an online business. You won’t have to consider buying or leasing and office since you’ll be working from home.

2) Running costs are much lower

Transportation costs will be much less. Since you’ll be working from home, you won’t have to be commuting to and from work. This means lower fuel bills and other running costs for your vehicle.

You will have to consider increased electricity costs, since you’re now at home during the day. However, with the rising costs of fuel, what you save in car maintenance and running will more tha offset the increase in electricity.

3) Flexible hours

Most real world businesses are open between 9 am to 5 pm and longer for some retail organizations. They may also be open five days to six days a week.

When you have on online business, the hours are flexible. There are no set hours. You can get up in the middle of the day if you want. The main aim is to satisfy the customer or client within a reasonable time.

Need to pick up the kids during the day? Want to make the supermarket during day when it’s less crowded? The online business is definitely preferable with its flexible hours.

There are some freelance jobs in which hours are set, similar to a real world job. You do have the option, however, to take on more flexible jobs.

4) You’re not a slave to location

As an online business person, you can work from any location. You can work from the beach, half-way around the world, or in your bedroom. Location isn’t important as long as you have your laptop and an internet connection.

This is so different from working in a real world business. Here you’re basically tethered to your location. Current technology does allow some freedom, but your business still operates from one or several block and steel structures.

5) You have to dress appropriately

In a real world business, you have to dress up to go work. Pajamas, underwear or your birthday suit, just isn’t going to cut it with customers/clients or employees.

A suit or dress pant with a dress shirt is normally deemed appropriate in a real world business. If you’re in retail or wholesale, maybe something slightly more relaxed might be appropriate. Clothes and shoes are necessary here.

In the online world, nobody can see or really cares what you’re wearing. So, unless you’re on a Skype call, anything goes.

6) You have more hours in your day

The daily commute to and from a real-world business can take several hours per day. These are non-productive hours. Not only that, but the time spent in traffic can be very tiring.

In an online business, since you’re working from home, those hours can be turned into productive hours. They can also be used for more free time.

If you’re considering an online business, these are just a few of the benefits you’ll see when starting and running your company.
